What can Reiki Level 1 do?

Maybe you’ve heard of Reiki but you don’t know whether Reiki is right for you or what it can do for you. Or maybe a doctor, friend or family member has recommended it to you as complimentary to your medical treatments. As a Reiki Master practitioner and teacher I’m here to help you understand Reiki better and find out about the different Reiki courses, the attunement process and more.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that works with your energetic body, clearing stagnant or blocked energy. It helps to bring your body, mind and spirit back into balance. When the flow of your Ki is restricted your body becomes weaker and you’re more vulnerable to illnesses. When your Ki is flowing strongly, it nourishes your organs and tissues and you are less likely to become ill. Reiki helps by flowing to the areas where blocked energy has accumulated in order for your Ki to flow strongly and freely again.

How can I learn Reiki?

Reiki is being taught in a different way than other healing techniques. Instead of a traditional training, Reiki can only be transferred to the student by a Reiki master. This happens during an attunement process in which the Reiki source makes adjustments in the student’s aura, chakras and energetic body to make space for the healing energy and to permanently link the student to the Reiki source. After the attunement, the student will have the ability to channel Reiki for the rest of their life. Reiki is being taught in three levels:

Reiki Level 1 - Shoden

The Reiki level 1 course is the first step on your healing journey with Reiki and is mainly there to provide you with a powerful self-care tool. You will receive the Reiki level 1 attunement after which you will be able to support yourself and others with Reiki through difficult times, increase joy, happiness and flow of life.

A Cleansing Process

The attunement will kick off a cleansing process in which your body will release toxins. This will be different for every student as the attunement itself is unique for each student. You may experience headaches, stomachaches, fatigue or other physical pains during this period. You may need more rest during this time. This doesn’t always happen but if it does, it’s important to know that this is natural and your body’s way of releasing what no longer serves you.

What happens after the Reiki Level 1 Course

After the attunement, all you have to do is intend Reiki to flow and it will start flowing through your palms. During the Reiki course you will also learn a lot about the history of Reiki, the Japanese reiki techniques that Mikao Usui, the founder of Usui Reiki practiced and a lot more. You will also give and receive a complete Reiki treatment as well as practice Self-Reiki. This way you will have all the background information and practice of Reiki to begin your own journey with it.

Reiki Level 2 - Okuden

One of the major parts of the Reiki Level 2 Course is to be attuned to the Reiki Distant Symbol called Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen. By activating this symbol you will be able to give distant healing sessions and to use many other techniques such as manifestation through Reiki or charging sacred objects with Reiki. Reiki Level 2 is for you if you have been attuned to Reiki Level 1 and you want to deepen your Reiki practice, learn a variety of effective new ways of using Reiki to improve every aspect of your life both at home and at work, as well as how to give more powerful and effective treatments to others.

Reiki Level 3 - Shinpiden

In this Reiki level you will be attuned to the Reiki Master symbol and will learn how to attune others to the Reiki source. This final level of Reiki training is designed to bring Reiki into your life in a powerful way, both in your personal life and to prepare you for professional practice. This course is usually taught 1:1 to provide the maximum personal teaching experience and to create an intimate setting. The training can be completed as a full weekend experience or as a 6 month program. I recommend at least six months of practicing after completing the Reiki Level 2 Course until you prepare for your Reiki Master training.

How can Reiki Level 1 help you?

But even if you don’t want to prepare for giving Reiki treatments professionally or teaching others Reiki, you benefit from taking the Reiki Level 1 course. Reiki is one of the few healing techniques that work as well on yourself as on others and is therefore an incredible self-care tool that is always with you. Whenever you can’t fall asleep or wake up at night worried or anxious, you can give yourself Reiki which immediately calms down your nervous system and substitutes negative with positive thoughts. You will feel peaceful and relaxed after giving yourself Reiki. Whenever there is a situation in the external world that you feel overwhelmed by, you can give yourself Reiki and will feel an immediate shift in your energetic and emotional body. Reiki is like a safety net that’s always there for you.
